The Ribera del Duero appellation is well known for "producing excellent grapes in extreme conditions". A constant feature of the climate is the wind - in winter, icy winds accompany heavy snowstorms and in summer, dry winds add to the hot conditions. Grapevines are pushed to the extreme and the grapes they produce are full of intense flavors with refreshing acidity.

We were immediately attracted to the unique climate, terroir and ancient vineyards in Ribero del Duero. When we talked to the vineyard owners we discovered vineyards that are up to 150 year old; making this region a very unique place with a great potential to make outstanding wines.

in 2005 we released our first vintage of Aventino Tempranillo 2004. This had very surprising results with consumers and journalist who appreciated the modern fruit with competitive prices coming from this infamous region. We look back at this 2004 as experimental times that allowed us to get to know the region and more importantly the great potential that these old vines Tinta del País could offer. We could see the potential for this fruit to age with grace and power so, in 2005 worked with a great amount of enthusiasm to go bigger and better! We started a project to make a barrel select wine that would become the powerhouse of the collection; Aventino 200 Barrels.
